Coolest Free Thing Ever

ok, so

I'm pretty sure that I've used that phrase several times to describe something, but as of right now this is for sure the coolest thing I have ever gotten for free.

Behold

The Vandercook No.14 Hand Proof Press

I'm not really sure what year it was made, but after some quick calculations from the serial number it's roughly circa 1945.

My place of employment was getting rid of this and it was way to cool for me to let go. Sure it's a little rusty, and ok, I don't have any type for it, but still.

So far the thing that has been most requested that I print is some sort of subversive pamphlet. I think the first one will be a decree to mandate the re-taking of your driver's test every time you renew your license.

Stand by for that.

I won't bore you with the whole story of transporting a 600 pound 50 year old printing press, but suffice it to say that the operation involved an engine lift and me almost getting squished beneath the beast.

fantastic.

600lbs. and 60 years old.
That thing looks like a fine old beast. You should learn how to make wood cuts.
